Welcome to Down the Vets, a small, independent veterinary service providing calm, experienced home-visit care across Buxton and Chapel-en-le-Frith. After 40 years in practice, including many years running Victoria Vets in Glossop, I now plan to offer a more personal way to support animals and their owners by bringing the vet directly to your home.
A home visit allows your pet to be examined in an environment where they feel safe and relaxed, avoiding the stress and anxiety that can come with a trip to the surgery. This approach is ideal for nervous animals, elderly pets, multi-pet households, or owners who find it easier when the vet comes to them.
I aim to provide a wide range of services including health checks, management of long-term conditions, diagnostic consultations, medication reviews, end-of-life support. With special interests in orthopaedics, cardiology, dermatology, geriatric care, exotics, sheep and poultry health, your animals could benefit from decades of practical clinical experience.
Down the Vets covers Buxton, Chapel-en-le-Frith, Peak Forest, the Hope Valley and surrounding villages, but if you live a little further afield, please feel free to contact me — I will always try to help where I can.
THIS IS HOW IT WORKS
1. GET IN TOUCH
Simply send a message or give me a call. I’ll take a few basic details about your pet and what you need.
There is no charge to register, and no complicated forms to complete.
2. BOOK A HOME VISIT
We’ll arrange an appointment at a time that suits you. As a small, flexible home-visit service, I can usually offer appointments within a day or two, and I always try to keep space available for pets who need more urgent attention. Routine visits can be booked well in advance.
3. DURING YOUR APPOINTMENT
I will visit you and your pet at home, bringing the equipment, medications, and experience needed to provide a thorough, unhurried examination. Home visits typically last around 30 minutes, but more complex cases may take a little longer — ensuring you receive clear explanations, a considered diagnosis, and sensible treatment options.
Where more advanced investigations or surgical care are required, I can arrange referral to Bollington Vets, an excellent independent practice led by Nick Rushton, ensuring continuity of care.
4. AFTER YOUR VISIT
Good veterinary care doesn’t end when I leave your home. I will update you as soon as test results are available, discuss ongoing treatment plans, answer questions, and arrange any follow-up appointments as needed.
Every case is managed with the same high standard of care, communication, and compassion.
